The Bramericand Drum can't keep still; it is always moving to a beat. Find out what happens to Ivi, Jean-Thomas and Jamar when it magically arrives on their shores. The magical drum travels across oceans and countries, from Brazil to Cameroon, from Jamaica to England. Everywhere it goes, it speaks the language, smells the food and searches for where it belongs. Aunty Elsie brings a world separated by oceans together to form one big family.

Author Biography:
Hi, I’m Nia, a 9-year-old with a passion for dancing, singing, photography and the saxophone. I love spending time outdoors in nature, especially in Zinho and Zinha’s garden, where I enjoy learning how to look after plants and care for the environment.

Music and celebrations are a big part of who I am, which is why I love Notting Hill Carnival. It is a place where all my cultures come together (Brazil, Jamaica, Cameroon and England).

I also love spending time in the kitchen with my grannies, Mami and Zinha. We make a range of family favourites, including pastéis, pão de queijo, chinchin, ndole, jerk chicken and lemon drizzle cake. My big sister loves cooking too, and she teaches me how to make brigaderios. Cooking with my family is one of my favourite ways to bring my different cultures together.
I speak French and Portuguese and am fluent in English. Growing up with a rich multicultural background has taught me to love every culture I belong to and to feel proud of who I am.
